“Did you call first to say we were coming?” asked Gavin.
“Of course not,” said Carmen. “Oh, by the way, you see that house over by Hogan’s Burger Bar? That’s the house Quincy and Daniella moved into. I told you Hugo was their close neighbor. Laurel is looking for them another house. She said something like, ‘No grandchild of mine is living in this neighborhood next to a burger shack!’ Haha, don’t tell Hugo she said that, by the way.”
“Woman, stay on topic! Why would you just show up–”
“Don’t worry about it. Everyone always shows up at my house without calling first,” interrupted Carmen, “Hugo being the one who does it the most. This is fine.”
“If you say so,” said Gavin. “I’m just happy I finally get to meet Hugo, especially now that you two are officially boyfriend and girlfriend.”
“Oh, I’m so happy two of the most important men in my life are getting to meet,” said Carmen. “You’ll love him, I just know it!”
They knocked on the door and waited for Hugo to answer.
“Hello, may I help you?”
Neither Carmen nor Gavin recognized the woman who opened the door. Gavin looked to Carmen for a clue as to what was going on.
“Um, hello there,” said Carmen, “my name is Carmen Butler, and this is my friend Gavin Ralston. We’re here to see Hugo. Is he home?”
“Oh, are you friends of Hugo’s? I haven’t met any of his friends yet, but you’re free to come in.”
Gavin and Carmen exchanged a glance of confusion, but followed the woman into the house. Carmen joined her on the loveseat in the living room, but Gavin stayed by the door, still not sure what to do or say.
“Oh, where are my manners? My name is Imane Villareal, it’s nice to meet you.”
Carmen had never rolled her eyes harder than at that moment as the realization of what she’d walked into sunk in.
Feeling like the ultimate sucker, Carmen confirmed what should’ve been obvious from the moment Imane opened the door.
“So, you’re… Hugo’s wife…”
“Yes, I sure am,” said Imane. “We’re brand spanking new newlyweds, so I’m still getting used to saying it. I’m Hugo’s wife. Wiiffe. Wiiiiiiiifffe.”
It turned out Carmen could roll her eyes even harder than she thought.
“So, how do you two know Hugo? We got married so quickly, I must admit we didn’t have much time to talk about small details like degrees of separation,” said Imane.
Carmen: Lord help me. I want to smack this woman. No, I want to smack Hugo! He’s lucky I’m a lover and not a fighter. I can’t believe this is happening to me!! And where does she think he is when he’s at my house every day and most nights?
Gavin: Oh. My. God. So my best friend’s boyfriend has a wife?!?! I think I need to get her away from here before she does or says something she’ll regret.
“Um… hello? You seem a bit lost in your thoughts there,” said Imane. “Did you hear my question?”
“Yes, I heard you,” snapped Carmen. “Maybe you should ask your husband how he knows me.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“it doesn’t mean anything,” interrupted Gavin, finally finding his voice. “I think Carmen is just a bit surprised that Hugo didn’t tell his friends and family he was getting married.”
“Yeah… that’s all it is,” said Carmen.
She was about to say more when she was interrupted by the sound of a baby crying coming from another room.
“That’s my baby girl,” said Imane. “I’m going to check on her, but we should continue this conversation if you have more to say.”
Gavin caught Carmen’s eye and gave a quick shake of his head.
“No, we just wanted to swing by to see Hugo,” said Carmen, ” will he be home soon?”
“Hold that thought, I really should check on the baby,” said Imane.
Imane stood as Gavin walked further into the living room. He planned to talk to Carmen while Imane was checking on the baby. He stopped short when he noticed what was happening.
“Oh shit! Carmen, what the hell,” exclaimed Gavin.
“What the hell?!” exclaimed Carmen.
“Did you know she was a vampire?”
“Of course not,” said Carmen, “I didn’t even know she existed before today. I have to go see this baby.”
“No, hell no! We have to get out of here before she makes us her lunch,” said Gavin.
“Hugo is still alive, so she’s not making snacks out of every Sim she comes across,” said Carmen.
“Yeah, but she likes him,” said Gavin. “If she figures out you’re the mistress, she’ll probably make an exception.”
“You wouldn’t understand,” said Carmen, “but I need to see this baby. This is my son’s sibling, I have to risk it! Maybe don’t use the word mistress, though, okay?”
“Fine,” sighed Gavin, “just make it quick. I doubt I can run from a vampire that travels by bat.”
“I’ll be quick,” said Carmen. “wait here.”
She walked into the bedroom and saw Imane cuddling a beautiful baby girl.
Carmen: Three out of three. Hugo really does make pretty babies. I think I need my mama. What am I going to do??
“You can come over and say hello,” said Imane after she finished feeding the baby.
Carmen couldn’t help herself. She drifted to the front of the bassinet and smiled down at the baby.
“What’s her name?”
“Anya,” answered Imane, “we thought it was the perfect name for her mixed heritage.”
Carmen: She really is a beautiful baby. I wonder if she’s a vampire too.
Before Carmen could decide whether to ask Imane if the baby was a vampire, Imane turned into a bat again and returned to the living room.
Carmen hurried out the room after her, not wanting to leave Gavin alone with a vampire. Carmen felt she probably should’ve been more scared to find out her boyfriend’s secret new wife was a vampire. But unlike Laurel and Gavin, her experiences with suspected vampires had been positive up to this point. She felt certain as long as she didn’t upset the woman, they would be fine.
“So, why are you all really here? I’d like to know,” said Imane to Gavin.
“I’m so sorry,” interrupted Carmen, “but we really have to go. I’ll just text Hugo that we stopped by.”
Carmen and Gavin quickly said their goodbyes and left.
“What are you going to do?”
“I don’t know,” said Carmen. “I’m not calling a club meeting though.”
